Q. How long will your new loft take to complete
A. Your new loft conversion will only take between 6 to 8 weeks from start to completion.
Q. Will you need planning permission
A. If you have no other extensions to your property then you probably wont need planning permission. You are normally allowed to build your loft using your permitted devolpment allowance but even if you have used this up with an extension we can deal with the planning department on your behalf.
Q. Is it a messy job
A. The only stage of the job which can generate a small amount of dust is at the end when we install your new staircase but even then its very minimal as dust sheets are always used and all our operatives have industrial hoovers.
Q. Have you got any previous projects for us to look at?
A. We always offer yourselves the opportunity to view previous projects as we feel there is no better way of judging our company, and all our past clients are proud to show off their new conversions.
Q. Is it a cost effective home improvement
A. Unlike many home improvements your new loft space will actually make you a proffit as it will add more value than what you paid for it. If you factor in estate agent/solicitor fees and stamp duty and all other moving expensives it would cost you to move to another property with an extra bedroom, it is indeed far more cost effective to use your space you already have.
Q. Are we insured
A. We have full public and employers liability insurance and also offer a 10 year warranty on all our work.
Q. What are your payment terms
A. Once you are satisfied with your drawings we ask for an initial deposit and then we book in a start date. No further money is asked for until the work commences. We then implement a 4 stage payment plan, with the final payment only taken when you are completely and 100% satisfied with your new conversion.
Q. Is there enough room to convert your loft
A. Ideally you should have 8ft (2.4m) from the top of the existing ceiling joists to the underneath of the ridge beam. However you could still get a good sized room with only 7ft (2.1m).
Q. Are we in any recognised trade federations
A. We are a member of The Federation Of Master Builders and have been for 20 years.
Q. How do you get plans and approval
A. We will draw your plans up for your approval and deal with local authorities on your behalf.
Q. Who supervises all work
A. As we are a family run company you will always have one of the partners working on your project as we feel there is no better way to protect our good reputation than carry out the work ourselves.
This gives you the advantage of not having to make long drawn out phone calls to people in offices if you wish to change some minor details to your loft.
Q. Who carries out plumbing and electrical work
A. We carry out all work ourselves and will issue you with relavent certificate on completion. One of the partners of the company is Part P registered and therefore we can ourselves issue the electrical certicate.
Q. Do i have to inform my neighbours
A. You will have to inform your neighbours that you are going to have a loft conversion and in most cases they will not have any problem with you going ahead with your project.
If you have a problem with gaining there permission they cannot actually stop you from going ahead with the works, but it will slow down the progress as they will have to instruct a surveyor to act for them in accordance with the Party Wall Act 1996 but it is very rarely that this happens.
